Release OpenKal 0.24 with four additive process-unit operations. A helper declares a caller-owned unit before admitting external writers, retains an observation reference, and retires only after those writers have ended. Retirement uses the same live continuation identity; ambiguous or lost native identity remains unknown. Existing spawn and structure layouts remain unchanged, with no process registry.
The C ABI states observation-only caller preconditions explicitly. The OS library enforces those restrictions through a separate observer type. SPEC clause 7.18, the normative C surface, generated macro module, declaration consumers and capability masks describe the same 0.24 contract. README and example pins follow the source group.
This is the generic lower-layer support for mcpplibs/os#17 and mcpp-community/mcpp#889. Paired implementations: mcpplibs/openkal-linux#51, mcpplibs/openkal-macos#43 and mcpplibs/openkal-windows#44.
Validation: actual C ABI and OS consumers passed on Linux, macOS and Windows, including descendant writers, pre/post admission controller loss, stale identity, live continuation and retirement. Full specification and backend conformance run independently. The historical native probe preserves its disproved missing-name and process-signal assumptions as observations; retained-handle membership and actual later writes remain asserted. Process-loss recovery does not promise storage power-loss durability.
