…update A quit fired its ComfyUI stops and exited without awaiting them, and an update's quit skipped them entirely while electron-updater started the installer first. The old ComfyUI could still hold its port and database lock when the next launch (or the new version) started. - Stops, exit handlers and aborted launches register the work they already do; quit and update await it against one deadline per sequence (11 s Windows, 6 s elsewhere). Nothing new is killed. - before-quit holds every quit until the wait and the telemetry drain are done, so session.ended and comfyui.exited are delivered on menu Quit. session.ended gains quit_wait_ms / _timed_out / _stops, or quit_wait_skipped at OS session end (no wait then). - Update: check the installer is staged, then stop and wait, re-check for a session end, then restartAndInstall; one install at a time; launches are refused meanwhile; a failed install is abandoned. - A launch click during a quit relaunches Desktop once it has exited (not over an update install, not twice).
…all wait (review) - A launch whose slot a restart's relaunch took still settles when its handler ends; otherwise every later quit waited out the full deadline. - No update check runs while an install waits for ComfyUI, and an updater error during the wait now stops the install instead of being ignored by it. - electron-updater's null installerPath (nothing staged) counts as missing, so a doomed install stops nothing.

…hold (review) A tray Quit or app relaunch during the install's wait overwrote the 'update-install' reason, which the post-wait re-check read as a failed install: abandoning then cleared the user's quit reason and ended the held sequence, so the next before-quit was neither held nor a quit in progress. - The install is abandoned only when an updater error cleared the reason, or the session is ending; a user quit that took over keeps the install the user asked for going. - Abandoning (and the updater error handler) undo only what the install still owns: the reason only while it is 'update-install', and never a held quit sequence.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 High — beginQuitSequence() opens a sequence with an absolute deadline that is only closed by abandonInstall() or the updater error handler. When restartAndInstall returns without quitting — the known failure mode the startup backstop in index.ts exists for — nothing throws, so the sequence stays active with an expired deadline; the backstop clears quitReason but never calls endQuitSequence(). Every later quit then hits remaining <= 0 in runWait and skips the ComfyUI wait entirely while reporting quit_wait_ms: 0, quit_wait_timed_out: true, defeating the port/database-lock protection this feature adds. Raised by 3 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial, claude-opus-5-thinking-max edge-case, gpt-5.6-sol-max adversarial).

| // ones being stopped. | ||
| if (isQuitInProgress()) return { ok: false, cancelled: true } |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 High — This guard makes a stuck quitReason fatal rather than cosmetic: the user-initiated install path has no equivalent of the startup backstop, so if restartAndInstall returns without quitting, quitReason stays 'update-install' for the life of the process. Every launch then returns { ok: false, cancelled: true } — which carries no message, so the user clicks Launch and nothing happens — while relaunchIfQuitting swallows dock/taskbar clicks and checkForUpdate short-circuits forever. Consider a timeout or explicit recovery that clears the reason when the install does not materialize. Raised by 2 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial, claude-opus-5-thinking-max edge-case).
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Rejected: the paths where restartAndInstall returns without quitting all emit an updater error (electron-updater dispatches one whenever install() returns false; the ToDesktop wrapper throws, which is caught here), and that handler clears the reason and abandons the sequence. The startup path has its backstop.

| clearTimeout(timer) | ||
| if (expired) { |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 High — When runWait breaks on the deadline it leaves the never-settled entries in pending, and trackExitWork only removes an entry when its promise settles. A single hung stop or bookkeeping promise therefore poisons the map for the rest of the session: every subsequent quit or update install waits the full QUIT_WAIT_MS and times out, and the stale entry is re-counted in quit_wait_stops each time. Evict (or age out) entries that the wait gave up on. Raised by 4 of 8 reviewers (kimi-k2.7-code edge-case, gemini-3.1-pro edge-case, kimi-k2.7-code adversarial, claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial).

| /** Abandon the sequence (an update that did not install): the next quit starts afresh. */ | ||
| export function endQuitSequence(): void { | ||
| active = null |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 High — endQuitSequence() nulls active unconditionally, including while phase === 'held' — exactly the window the updater error handler and abandonInstall() reach it in, since both run after await waitForExitWork() when a user quit may already be parked on the same sequence. isQuitHeld() then reports false, the before-quit guard in index.ts stops short-circuiting, and the whole handler body re-runs: the template-download dialog re-shows, a fresh sequence holds the quit for another full deadline, and drainForQuit runs a second time. Guard the reset on phase === 'open'. Raised by 2 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial, claude-opus-5-thinking-max edge-case).

Fixed in dda20d2 (after the panel's commit); now built into the lifecycle: abandon ends only an open sequence, never a held one.

| export function installUpdate(userInitiated = true): void { | ||
| export async function installUpdate(userInitiated = true): Promise<void> { |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 High — installUpdate became async, but all three call sites still invoke it fire-and-forget: ipcMain.handle('install-update', () => { installUpdate() }) in this file, titlePopup.ts, and the system-modal confirm in index.ts. The renderer's await window.api.installUpdate() now resolves before cancelAll()/waitForExitWork() have run, so failures are unobservable, and a throw from cancelAll() or emitUpdateTelemetry (outside the inner try) becomes an unhandled main-process rejection instead of a reported install failure. Raised by 3 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial, claude-opus-5-thinking-max edge-case, gpt-5.6-sol-max edge-case).

| proc.once('close', (code, signal) => finish(code, signal, false)) | ||
| proc.once('exit', (code, signal) => { | ||
| trackExitWork(handledPromise) |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟠 High — trackExitWork(handledPromise) is registered inside the 'exit' listener, which is both too late and too narrow. A child that fails to spawn emits 'error'/'close' with no 'exit', so finish runs with its bookkeeping untracked; and if 'close' fires first the wait can drain before the 'exit' listener registers anything. Worse, the tracked callback can consume a reboot marker and spawn a replacement ComfyUI during the quit, which stopRunning() has already de-tracked — so Desktop exits or starts the installer with a live, untracked child. Register at wiring time and have the callback check quit state before relaunching. Raised by 4 of 8 reviewers (gpt-5.6-sol-max adversarial, gpt-5.6-sol-max edge-case, kimi-k2.7-code edge-case, claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial).

| trackExitWork( | ||
| kill.then(({ exited }) => | ||
| exited && !hasExited(proc) | ||
| ? new Promise<void>((resolve) => proc.once('exit', () => resolve())) |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟡 Medium — This proc.once('exit') promise has no bound of its own and never removes the listener. Both reachable cases are real: a child that failed to spawn emits only 'error'/'close', and on POSIX process.kill(-pid) returns ESRCH for a pid that is not a group leader, which killTree reports as exited: true while the process is still alive. The entry then never settles, so the quit burns the whole QUIT_WAIT_MS and leaks the listener. Race it against a short timer and use off on the resolved branch. Raised by 4 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial, claude-opus-5-thinking-max edge-case, kimi-k2.7-code adversarial, kimi-k2.7-code edge-case).
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Rejected: a spawn failure has no pid, so killProcessTree never tracks it; Desktop spawns ComfyUI detached, so it leads its own process group and ESRCH means the group is gone. The quit deadline bounds it regardless, and a timed-out wait now evicts it.
| export function holdQuit(event: { preventDefault: () => void }, deps: QuitHoldDeps): void { | ||
| beginQuitSequence() | ||
| const seq = active! | ||
| if (seq.phase === 'released') return |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟡 Medium — The 'released' phase is sticky: active survives a release and only the updater's endQuitSequence() clears it. If the app survives the quit it released — a window close handler cancelling app.quit(), or a confirmation dialog cancelling the re-issued quit — every subsequent before-quit returns here without preventDefault(), so there is no ComfyUI wait and no telemetry drain at all for the rest of the session. The release should drop the sequence. Raised by 2 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial, gemini-3.1-pro adversarial).
| event.preventDefault() | ||
| if (seq.phase === 'held') return | ||
| seq.phase = 'held' | ||
| const skip = isSessionEnding() |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟡 Medium — isSessionEnding() is sampled once at the start of the hold and runWait has no cancellation, so a session-end arriving during the up-to-11s wait is never observed: the app lingers and is force-killed with the telemetry drain never started, where previously the drain began immediately under a 1.5s cap. Note also that session-end is Windows-only in Electron, so a macOS or Linux logout takes the full hold regardless. Re-check inside the wait loop or race the wait against the session-end signal. Raised by 2 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max adversarial x2 findings on the same hold path).
There was a problem hiding this comment.
| cleanupTempDownloads() | ||
| // Hold the quit until the ComfyUI processes being stopped have exited (bounded) and | ||
| // telemetry has drained, then quit again; that re-issued quit passes through. | ||
| holdQuit(event, { drain: mainTelemetry.drainForQuit, quit: () => app.quit() }) |
There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟡 Medium — holdQuit is the last statement of the before-quit handler, so anything that throws earlier (dialog.showMessageBoxSync, flushLastSessionSync, cleanupTempDownloads) skips it and the quit proceeds with no preventDefault(), losing both the ComfyUI exit wait and the telemetry drain. The removed installAppHooks() registered the drain as an independent before-quit listener, so it survived a throw in this handler; the new coupling does not. Wrap the preceding work in try/finally so the hold always runs. Raised by 1 of 8 reviewers (claude-opus-5-thinking-max edge-case).
…aps (review) The quit sequence's transitions now live in one place (quitWait.ts, with a state table): begin / hold / release / end / abandon. Every path goes through them. - Release ends the sequence right after the re-issued quit has passed (Electron emits before-quit inside app.quit()), so a quit cancelled later and issued again is held and waited afresh. - Abandon ends only an open sequence; a held quit keeps it. The startup-install backstop now abandons too, so a later quit no longer meets an expired deadline. - A wait that runs out evicts the work it gave up on; a later sequence neither waits for it again nor counts it. - A wait ends early once the OS session starts ending. - installUpdate reports and abandons a throw while stopping ComfyUI. - No Manager-restart or model-folder respawn while Desktop is quitting. - before-quit always reaches the hold, even if its teardown throws.
…eview) - A wait that runs out evicts only the work it raced; work registered during its last round stays for a later sequence. - A wait the OS session end skipped or cut short reports quit_wait_skipped: session_ending. The hold no longer checks the session end itself; the wait loop already stops on it. - The quit guard on respawn still consumes the Manager reboot marker.

Preserve a user quit when the updater fails
If the tray quit or relaunch path changes the reason to user-quit while installUpdate() is awaiting exit work, a concurrent updater error skips this branch but the unconditional clearQuitReason() immediately below still erases the user's quit state. The held quit continues, but onProcessTerminated() now sees !isQuitInProgress() and can honor a Manager/model-folder restart marker, spawning a new detached ComfyUI just before Desktop exits. Only clear the reason when it is still update-install, preserving a quit that took ownership during the wait.
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Taken: landed in 62d08c8. The updater error handler now clears the quit reason only while it is the install's own ('update-install'), matching how an abandoned install backs out; a user quit that took over keeps its reason and its hold.
…on (review) The updater error handler cleared the quit reason unconditionally, so an error during a user quit that took over an install's wait (or any held user quit) wiped the quit in progress: the respawn, launch and relaunch guards then stopped treating it as a quit. It now clears the reason only while it is the install's, as abandoning an install does.

Track the process-group kill after the leader exits.
hasExited(proc) reports only the group leader. On POSIX, killTree still signals -pid and polls the process group. The quit path can start stopRunning without awaiting it, and the relaunch path also calls killProcessTree(proc) without await. Exit bookkeeping removes the session later, so an exited leader with live descendants can reach this code. Track the kill for every PID, but keep the additional child exit wait conditional. Add a regression test with an exited group leader and a live group member. Track the group kill so quit does not quit too soon.

Review comment at @src/main/lib/process.ts around lines 234 - 246:
In the process-stop flow, track the `killTree` work with `trackExitWork` for
every valid PID, even when `hasExited(proc)` is already true, so quit waits for
live descendants to be killed. Keep the additional `'exit'` event wait
conditional on `exited && !hasExited(proc)`, and add a regression test for an
exited leader with a live process-group member.

Rejected: declined by the maintainer's decision. Desktop runs ComfyUI as a single Python process, and that process holds the port and the database lock; children it starts via subprocess don't inherit them. The remaining case (Linux, a custom node using fork-based multiprocessing, and a quit in the window after the leader exited) is rare and not worth the added complexity here.

…-core Conflicts: - src/main/lib/telemetry.ts: _resetForTest keeps main's new suppressEmit reset; drainingForQuit stays removed (this branch moved the quit drain out of telemetry). - src/main/lib/ipc/sessionActions/launch.test.ts: both sides added launchHarness fields and tests; kept both (rebootMarker and the quit no-respawn test from this branch, the campaigns fields and suite from main).
main's guard test typed them as { abort }, the shape before this
branch widened ActiveLaunch (settled, _resolveSettled); _endLaunch now
needs the full record.

Quitting, relaunching and installing a Desktop update now wait, briefly, for the ComfyUI processes Desktop is stopping to exit. Until now nothing waited: Desktop could be gone, or the update's installer running, while ComfyUI was still going down and holding its port and database lock. The wait is one bounded deadline for the whole quit or update (11 s on Windows, 6 s elsewhere). Nothing new is killed, there is no new UI, and a quit with nothing running is no slower.
This replaces #1618 with its core only. The Windows kill-order changes, the launch-time tree proof, the quit-time survivor sweep and

cancelAll→void stopRunning()) and exited without awaiting them. The exit bookkeeping (record cleared,comfyui.exited) usually never ran.cancelAllentirely, and electron-updater starts the installer before it quits, so the installer always ran beside a live ComfyUI.session.ended. The telemetry drain held only the firstbefore-quit; closing the windows quit a second time (window-all-closed), and the process exited mid-drain.QA

A relaunch click mid-wait relaunches at 4.5 s. Two quits in a row are one quit. A plain quit with nothing running is unchanged (0.11-0.17 s vs 0.12-0.15 s, 10/10). Quit and relaunch.
before-quitholds the quit, waits for the exit work in flight, drains telemetry, then quits again. While the hold is active, every furtherbefore-quitis held too, which fixes the lostsession.ended. The work waited for:killProcessTreeof a live ComfyUI, until Node reports its exit;onProcessTerminated), until it has run;cancelAllaborted, until its teardown has run. A launch whose slot a restart's relaunch took still settles when its handler ends.cancelAllnow also aborts a launch still in pre-spawn prep, which had not yet claimed its abort slot.Update. Order:
readyand, on Windows, electron-updater still has an installer staged and the file is on disk;restartAndInstall.If the check fails, nothing is stopped and the failure is reported as before. A second install request during the wait is ignored, no update check runs during it, and an updater error during it stops the install. New launches are refused while a quit or install is in progress.
One deadline. It starts when the quit or install begins and is shared by every wait in that sequence. An update spends it before the installer, and the quit that follows reuses whatever is left. The wait races the deadline, so a hung PowerShell or process probe is given up on rather than waited out. A stuck tree is normally given up on earlier, by the stop's own 10 s poll.
taskkillstarts at once and the tree snapshot runs alongside it, then the tree is polled for up to 10 s. A slow tree gets at least 11 s minus the snapshot time.OS session end. A quit doesn't wait (the OS ends what lingers) and only drains; a session end during a wait ends it at once. An update never starts the installer, before or after its wait.
Launch click during the wait. The click relaunches Desktop once the quit ends, rather than being lost to the single-instance lock. This doesn't apply during an update install (the installer starts the new version), and a relaunch already scheduled (Restart in settings or the picker) isn't doubled.
Telemetry.
session.endedgains:quit_wait_ms: the total wait across the sequence (update + quit);quit_wait_timed_out: the shared deadline ran out (not set for a stuck tree; see Known limits);quit_wait_stops: live ComfyUI processes stopped;quit_wait_skipped: 'session_ending'.comfyui.exitedis now emitted before the drain, so it's delivered on quit.A quit during an install's wait (tray Quit, menu Quit, relaunch) is held on the same deadline; the install the user asked for still goes ahead.
The quit sequence's lifecycle lives in one place (
quitWait.ts), and every path (user quit, update install, the startup-install fallback, an abandoned install, an OS session end, a quit cancelled and issued again) goes through it:app.quit())A wait that runs out evicts the work it gave up on, so a later sequence neither waits for nor counts it again. Ending after the release means a quit cancelled later (a window's close consult) and issued again is held and waited afresh.
No respawn while quitting. A Manager restart request or a model-folder relaunch no longer starts a new ComfyUI during a quit.
Known limits:
restartAndInstallthrows, the updater reports an error, or the session ends during the wait), the ComfyUI instances it stopped stay stopped. The failure is reported, and the quit state is cleared so a later quit waits afresh.will-quitkeep their own existing bounds, after and outside the 11 s.will-quitissues again gets a fresh hold. It waits only for exit work registered since the release (normally none), within a fresh deadline.window-all-closed, or an OS quit) during an install's wait keeps theupdate-installreason, so an updater error during it still clears that reason while the quit is held. The wait and the drain are unaffected, but the launch and respawn guards stop applying until exit, and the install is abandoned. (Follow-up: Quit: an updater error during a held quit clears the quit reason instead of switching to user-quit #1652.)quit_wait_timed_outstays false for a stuck tree: the stop's own 10 s poll settles its work as{ exited: false }before the 11 s deadline, so the stuck stop isn't reported as a timeout. (Follow-up: Quit telemetry: quit_wait_timed_out stays false for a stuck process tree #1653.)app:relaunchor the picker) during an update install's wait still schedulesapp.relaunch(), so the old Desktop relaunches about 0.4 s after it exits and could collide with the real installer (untested against the real NSIS feed). A launch click (relaunchIfQuitting) already skips update installs. (Follow-up: Restart during an update install's wait can relaunch the old Desktop beside the installer #1654.)Implementation and change breakdown
