fix(object): read back quoted keys of assigned objects - #188
When a plain object is assigned through a proxy, literalToAst builds keys that are not valid identifiers with b.literal(), so the key node is a Literal. The object proxy only reads Identifier, StringLiteral, NumericLiteral and BooleanLiteral keys, so magicast cannot see keys it just wrote: reads return undefined, Object.keys() and in miss them, delete is a no-op, and a second write appends a duplicate key.
Calling deepMergeObject twice with a nested quoted key like server.proxy["/api"] hits the same path and adds a second "/api" entry instead of merging. This builds those keys with b.stringLiteral() via isValidPropName(), like replaceOrAddProp already does. Printed output is unchanged.
Ran: vitest run test/object.test.ts: both new tests fail before the change, 14/14 pass after.
Improved handling of quoted object property names, so keys that aren’t valid identifiers remain correctly represented when objects are read, updated, or merged.
Tests
Added coverage for working with quoted keys, including updates and deep merges that retain existing object values.
Non-identifier object keys are now emitted as string literals. Added tests cover reading, enumerating, checking, updating, and deleting a quoted key, and merging properties into a quoted proxy entry.
Changes: Quoted Object Keys
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Emit and test quoted object keys src/proxy/_utils.ts, test/object.test.ts
Non-identifier keys are emitted as string literals. Tests cover proxy operations on a quoted key and verify that deep merging retains existing properties while adding new ones.
Objects using an empty-string property are not fully enumerable or serializable through the proxy; this is a narrow follow-up issue.

Explanation
Issue #187 requires readable and discoverable non-identifier keys, replacement on repeated writes, and merging of repeated nested quoted keys. src/proxy/_utils.ts now emits non-identifier object keys with b.stringLiteral(key) instead of b.literal(key). test/object.test.ts verifies property reads, Object.keys, the in operator, replacement, deletion, and repeated deepMergeObject calls for "/api". The supplied PR evidence reports that the focused tests and the full test suite pass.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes are limited to the key-node construction in src/proxy/_utils.ts and tests in test/object.test.ts. The source change directly fixes the behavior in issue #187. The tests cover the required proxy operations and preserve generated output. No unrelated implementation or test changes are shown.

When an assigned object contains {"": value}, literalToAst now creates a StringLiteral, but ownKeys removes the key with .filter(Boolean). Therefore Object.keys and the in operator omit it. toJSON also omits it because of if (propName). Use definedness checks instead of truthiness checks. deepMergeObject itself uses the proxy get and set paths and does not omit this key for a plain source object.
Suggested fix
- if (propName) {+ if (propName !== undefined) {
...
- .filter(Boolean) as string[];+ .filter(propName => propName !== undefined) as string[];
