First off, prof. Dwyer I am amazed at your work. I just discovered it today and feel like I've struck a massive gold vein. I've been frustrated with poor local minima with the force-directed approach and had given up on my multistep layout arrangement approach. I then was about to implement this algorithm from 1993 in Prolog in a modern language when I found out about your work. This is fantastic!
I have one question- has the DiAlEcT / HOLA algorithm been ported to JS? I assume not, and I would love to tackle this. I just wonder-- would you advise this? I wonder if the reason it's only available in C is that it would be too computationally intensive to run in the browser.
Thank you so much for your work at the Monash IA lab -- I spent all afternoon on a tear reading your papers on network visualization and how humans perceive them!!
