FuseX emulates the Pentagon 128, 512 and 1024 and the Scorpion ZS 256, but ships none of their ROM images, so each needs the user to supply one before it will start. This ships them.

Some of these have no grant behind them. Every ROM FuseX ships today has one — Amstrad's, Datel's, the GPL, MIT — so this is a first for the repository.

roms/README.copyright gives the copyright position file by file, and adds an archival statement and a takedown policy covering those with no permission.

Other projects shipping these images

  • RetroPieBIOS — all eight, byte-identical and under the same filenames.
  • retroarch-bios — all eight, byte-identical, in system/fuse/.
  • ZEsarUXpentagon.rom and trdos.rom.
  • JSSpeccy 3pentagon-0.rom and trdos.rom.
  • Spectralpentagon128.rom and five TR-DOS versions.
  • UnrealSpeccy Portable — the Pentagon ROMs, bundled into its Android and macOS builds.
  • ZX Evopentagon.rom, scorpion.rom and TR-DOS.
  • Spectaculator — commercial, closed source. Supports both machines out of the box, and trdos.rom and 256s-3.rom are embedded byte-identical in its BetaDiskDll.

None of the open source projects states a licence or names a copyright holder for any ROM image. Spectaculator does keep an "Embedded ROM code" section, covering the Amstrad ROMs, the Multiface ROMs it licensed from Romantic Robot, and one it admits it has no permission for:

The copyright status of the Currah µSpeech ROM is currently unknown. If the copyright owner is currently reading this, please contact us.

Pentagon and Scorpion are absent from that section. The wording of roms/README.copyright follows its example.

The Pentagon 128, 512 and 1024 and the Scorpion ZS 256 run without the
user having to find and install ROM images for them.

roms/README.copyright states the copyright position of each added file,
and gains an archival statement and a takedown policy covering those for
which no permission to redistribute has been obtained.
