freeimage is deprecated and will be removed from homebrew-core in 2027-Jan

[scpeters]

The freeimage formula has been deprecated in Homebrew/homebrew-core#262236 since it has multiple CVEs.

Migration plan

• Add gz-rotary-ogre2.3-vendor formula without freeimage
  • gz-rotary-ogre2.3-vendor: 2.3.3 with stb patches #3391
  • gz-rotary-ogre2.3-vendor: patch RGB channel swap #3408
• Drop freeimage from Rotary gz-rotary-rendering: drop freeimage #3394
• Rename current ogre2.3 formula to ogre2.3-with-freeimage Rename ogre2.3 to ogre2.3-with-freeimage #3566
• Rename gz-rotary-ogre2.3-vendor to ogre2.3 Rename gz-rotary-ogre2.3-vendor to ogre2.3 #3567
• Jetty: drop freeimage, ogre1.9 Jetty: drop freeimage, ogre1.9 #3568

[scpeters]

Direct dependency on freeimage has already been removed from gz-rotary-common and gz-rotary-rendering, but it is still used by ogre2.3 (currently version 2.3.1). If we can upgrade the ogre2.3 formula to use the patches in OGRECave/ogre-next#562 (probably by updating to the head of the v2-3 branch rather than cherry-picks), then we could build ogre2.3 with stb instead of freeimage.

[scpeters]

we have dropped freeimage from the rotary collection on macOS as of #3394

[scpeters]

dropped freeimage from gz-common7 in #3554

for Jetty, we would need to make the following changes to gz-rendering10:

• drop ogre1.9
• change the ogre2.3 formula to what is currently in Formula/gz-rotary-ogre2.3-vendor.rb

I don't think we would backport the switch from freeimage to STB any further, so I expect that we would drop support for Ionic and earlier when freeimage is disabled in January 2027
