Design choice: IP-in-IPv6 only – why not VXLAN/GRE/MPLS?

what's the main purpose of this project? I noticed it only supports IP-in-IPv6 tunneling, but not VXLAN, GRE, or MPLS. Why was this choice made? Isn't that limiting, especially when most cloud fabrics rely on VXLAN or GRE for overlay networking? Just trying to understand the design philosophy – thanks!

Hi, the key point of using ip-in-ip6 tunnel is that we would like to minimise the configuration complexity of underlying fabric, as now the underlying fabric only needs to treat encapsulated packets as normal IPv6 packets. Based on this assumption, this project builds and provides necessary functions, such as encap/decap, NAT, NAT64, loadbalancing for the overlay networking.
