Refine the version banner by explicitly displaying the detected byte order (LE/BE) alongside the architecture. This improves diagnostic capabilities by providing complete information about the binary's target environment. A corresponding regression test was added to verify the accuracy of the version string formatting.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Version output now reports the target architecture, pointer width, and byte order, making platform details easier to identify. Recognized architectures are labeled individually; unrecognized targets are reported as “unknown.”
    • The license text previously appended to the version output is no longer displayed.

📝 Walkthrough

The CLI version output now reports compile-time architecture, pointer width, and byte order. Architecture detection covers listed targets and uses unknown otherwise. The CLI test validates the fields and compares byte order with the native host.

Changes: CLI version output

Layer / File(s) Summary
Detect target architecture and byte order
src/cli/main.c
Compile-time checks identify supported architecture targets and report LE, BE, or unknown byte order.
Print and validate target metadata
src/cli/main.c, tests/test_cli.sh
The version output includes architecture, pointer width, and byte order. The test rejects unknown architecture and mismatched or missing byte-order fields.

The version output has no demonstrated failure, but its new test would miss an incorrect architecture label. Add a target-specific assertion to protect the feature.

Assert the expected target architecture

tests/test_cli.sh:225-237 accepts every known-looking architecture and rejects only unknown. An ARM64 binary that reports x86_64 can pass when its endian value is correct. Native ARM64 workflows execute this test, and no related CLI assertion checks the architecture value.

Pass the expected architecture to each native invocation and compare it with VER_ARCH.

+ log_fail "Version banner says $VER_ARCH, expected $EXPECTED_ARCH: $OUT_VER"

Pass x86_64 or arm64 as the second argument at each native workflow invocation.
