README

This project contains a Lucene search user interface, which is robust, efficient and can be used offline. Lucene is an open source Java library that indexes documents and searches through them, http://lucene.apache.org.

The Panama Papers database contains offshore companies information based on files leaked from the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca.

What is this repository for?

  • The Panama Express project was designed with the intension of creating a user friendly search engine of the data of two Leaks: the Panama Papers and the Offshore Leaks released by The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

  • This is our first version and we are open to contributions.

How do I get set up?

  • The first point to take into account is that the Panama Papers database should be downloaded at https://offshoreleaks.icij.org/pages/database. We do NOT provide the data.
  • As soon as you have the data you can start with our Panama Express search engine. This project can be cloned or downloaded by means of a .jar-file. We strongly recomend to use the jar, as it is easier to use.
  • You can download the newest stable version on Sourceforge Panama Express Project: https://sourceforge.net/projects/panama-express/
  • What to do?:

    1. Download the Database

    2. Run .jar file

    3. Select database directory and wait till indexing finished (this step only has to be done at the first time)

    4. start search

  • Content: we provide different classes in our project
    • Indexer: Builds the indexes
    • Searcher: Processes the query through the inder files
    • Model: Contains the database class
    • View: Contains the grapical interface for the frontend
    • Controller: Interface for the Model and View

  • Push and be part of the project

Who do I talk to?
