Contributor Camp

Pull Requests

6.2.0

  • Time to start planning and creating a timeline
  • Currently June/July planned release date (following most recent cadence - feature release once per year, with 1-3 bug fix releases in between)
  • Using 6.1.0 as an example - https://github.com/SasView/sasview/wiki/DevNotes_25Feb2025
    • Schedule:
      • Feature freeze - End of April with alpha release immediately following
      • Bug Fixes on New Features - until End of May (a couple after) - RC1 immediately followed
      • Full Release planned for end of June, with an actual release date of July 3
    • What branch to originate from?
      • main until feature freeze
      • Create release branch for the alpha release
      • Pull requests for fixes based off the release branch
  • What is already in main?
  • What other features are desired?
  • What features should be highlighted in the what's new panel?
  • SasModels and SasData releases
    • Need Zenodo for each: What contributors list should be used for those? Main SasView one, or smaller lists for each, with the sasview list always including everyone?
  • Need to ensure Sujaya and Paul S. have permissions for the appropriate repos and distributions (pypi, flatpak, documentation, sasview.org, zenodo)

ADRs

  • To finalize:
  • Ongoing discussion:
  • New to discuss
    • No link: Defining the release process and release manager - Jeff to create discussion
    • No Link: Contributing to SasView: Define the process, i.e. what the requestor needs to provide, level of support from the existing community, and
    • https://github.com/orgs/SasView/discussions/3475: Release automation (can we assign some tasks...?)
      • Create suggestion to discuss at Tuesday meeting?
      • Zenodo generation - build_tools/release_automation.py, but would need tweaks, the ability to commit changes, and the ability to change release tags
      • Pypi publishing - Work started in sasdata
      • Upload binaries to releases - Already working for nightly build
