feat(nvcf-cli): forward routing expressions unchanged - #2339
Conversation
The CLI rejected any routingMethod outside seven names and rewrote hyphenated names to legacy underscore spellings, so routing expressions such as pulsar;seed=stable-a could only be set through the raw API. The function API now validates the format and the request router validates the meaning, so the CLI forwards the value unchanged for --llm-model, --llm-model-update, and JSON input, and prints the API error. Regenerating the embedded skill data also picks up earlier skill edits that were merged without regenerating it. Refs #1408 Signed-off-by: along <along@nvidia.com>
Add the owner-facing routing expression guide to the request router load balancing page: format, parameters per algorithm with accepted values, rejection codes, update propagation and caching, logs and traces, and the behavior of routers without expression support. Replace the fixed method lists in the CLI and gateway overviews with the expression format. Refs #1409 Signed-off-by: along <along@nvidia.com>
Describe a router without expression support as behavior instead of a required upgrade order. State that idle entries expire lazily. Make the validation steps match a CLI that forwards every value: the router, not the update, rejects an unknown parameter. Point the flag help at the docs. Refs #1409 Signed-off-by: along <along@nvidia.com>
An unquoted inline spec ends at the first semicolon in the shell, so the CLI sends the algorithm name without its parameters and the update succeeds. Show a single-quoted --llm-model-update example and the matching update JSON, and add the quoting rule to the CLI skill. Refs #1409 Signed-off-by: along <along@nvidia.com>
The create and update schemas described routingMethod only as a routing method. Describe the algorithm name with optional tuning parameters and which component checks what, in the Java schema annotations and in the UI copy of the Cloud Functions spec, with regenerated UI models. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe CLI now forwards supplied routing-method values unchanged. References describe optional tuning parameters and distinguish API format checks from request-router validation. The self-managed guide documents expression rules, parameter details, rejection behavior, and operational guidance. ChangesRouting expressions

Reviewed the CLI change, tests, schema text, and the new routing expression docs against the router parser (load_balancer/expression.rs) and the API validator. The CLI pass-through is safe: the router already lowercases and maps underscores to hyphens, so dropping the CLI normalization does not break existing spellings such as round-robin or POWER_OF_TWO. go test for cmd and internal/client passes, and go generate leaves skilldata_generated.go unchanged. One doc accuracy issue below.

Approving. The CLI change looks correct. The inline docs comment on the routing-expression parameter table is non-blocking; please fix it before merge or in a follow-up.
…iden Since #2288 the router also accepts the cache affinity backend count, input token scale, and wait for pulsar-wait-and-widen, and adds the pulsar-wait-and-widen-only band_widen_interval_ms and fallback_max_queued. Update the parameter table to match. Refs #1409 Signed-off-by: along <along@nvidia.com>

🟡 Minor · Validate routingMethod before API submission · function.go:696-709

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winValidate
routingMethodbefore API submissionThe create and update paths copy
routingMethodunchanged from inline and JSON input. Malformed expressions and noncanonical names such asPOWER_OF_TWOcan therefore reach the API, instead of being rejected or canonicalized by the CLI as required by issue#1408.Validate and canonicalize in the shared conversion functions so both input forms use the same logic. The helper must accept valid parameterized expressions and canonicalize only the algorithm name.
