- Around line 745-748: Update the idle-frame handling in the message handler so
production sessions can detect idle frames through an SDK signal they actually
emit, rather than relying on the unavailable Debug log. Configure that signal’s
delivery before the handler depends on it, and preserve the existing session and
stream-start guards around noteIdleFrame.
- Around line 533-537: Update the idle-period guard around warmupStatusRef and
the watchdog timer calls so a successful RenderFramerate metric also ends the
idle period. Track that render-metric success and return before re-arming either
watchdog when it has occurred, even if warmupStatusRef.current.completed is
still false.

While no OpenXR app is submitting frames the server sends keep-alive idle frames, which the client's decoder also counts as warm-up frames. The warm-up-end timer therefore started on them and disconnected a session that was only waiting for an app to start. Recognise the 'Received idle frame' debug log: while it keeps arriving, cancel the warm-up begin/end timers and do not arm the end timer from warm-up logs. Once no idle frame has arrived for 1 s, resume the watchdog for whichever warm-up phase is still pending. CloudXR.js does not currently emit that log, and the session log level is still Info, so behavior is unchanged until a release that emits it is consumed and the level includes Debug. MockCloudXR gains startIdleFrames()/stopIdleFrames(), and attempt 4 of StreamAttachTimeoutTest now rides out idle frames for 3x the warm-up budgets before warm-up completes. …atus Add an optional onIdleStatus callback and IdleStatus type to CloudXRComponent, mirroring onWarmupStatus: it fires on each idle frame (active: true, with a per-attempt count) and once when idle frames stop (active: false), either after a quiet period or when warm-up completes with a pose-backed frame. It is derived from the same 'Received idle frame' debug log that the warm-up watchdog already uses, so it stays inert until CloudXR.js emits that log. StreamAttachTimeoutTest attempt 4 now also checks the idle status is reported active and then inactive. Two review findings on the idle-frame handling: - A RenderFramerate tick (real, pose-backed video) cancelled the warm-up watchdogs but not the idle quiet timer, and the timer's guard only checked the warm-up completion log. A stream that starts warmed up could be disconnected by a watchdog armed after real video. Track real video per attempt, end the idle period when it arrives, and skip re-arming once it has been seen. - A disconnect or retry while idle frames were arriving left the last onIdleStatus at active: true. End and report idle at stream stop and WebXR session end. clearStartupTimers no longer touches idle state, since it also runs on config-change re-registration and unmount; the quiet timer is dropped on unmount without reporting. MockCloudXR renders nothing while idle frames run and can optionally report RenderFramerate. StreamAttachTimeoutTest gains an attempt that fails mid-idle and a real-video-after-idle scenario; each fails if its fix is reverted. Summary
Reviewed 7d8ed06b with separate readability, conciseness, correctness, and repository-instructions passes, applying the global guidelines and both applicable repository AGENTS.md files. The change implements idle status reporting and pauses warm-up watchdogs while idle logs arrive. The attempt-boundary cleanup and real-video guard address the earlier review findings. One remaining path bypasses idle suspension when configuration changes; two smaller improvements are below. Readability and repository-policy review found no additional issues. The current SDK/log-level limitation is explicitly documented and treated as intentional preparatory scope, rather than repeating CodeRabbit's finding.

| Finding | |
|---|---|
| 💡 | Correctness — deps/cloudxr/webxr_client/helpers/react/CloudXRComponent.tsx:543, interacting with :623–626: config changes still unconditionally re-arm a warm-up watchdog while idle is active. With the last idle log at t=0, a config change at t=100ms, and a supported 500ms warm-up budget, the watchdog disconnects at t=600ms, before the one-second quiet period ends; the intended deadline is t=1500ms. With a later config change, quiet expiry can also arm a second timer and overwrite the ref to the first, leaving an uncancellable watchdog. Preserve idle suspension in the config re-registration path and ensure each warm-up phase owns at most one timer. |
| 💡 | Regression coverage — deps/cloudxr/webxr_client/tests/mock/StreamAttachTimeoutTest.tsx:108: attempt 5 completes warm-up within the resumed watchdog budget. It still succeeds if the quiet callback stops arming watchdogs entirely; the other new scenario intentionally requires no watchdog after real video. Add idle-then-silence scenarios with no completion/real video, covering both “warm-up never began” and “warm-up began but stalled,” and assert the appropriate timeout/retry after quiet plus the phase budget. Include the config-change case above. |
| 🔍 | Conciseness — deps/cloudxr/webxr_client/helpers/react/CloudXRComponent.tsx:342: idleFramesActiveRef duplicates idleStatusRef.current.active. Use the status field for idle guards and transitions, removing the extra ref and assignments, so attempt reset and idle termination maintain one source of truth. |
Validation: git diff --check origin/main...HEAD passed. A dependency-free harness executing the actual endIdle/noteIdleFrame callbacks and config re-arm block verified quiet-period phase selection, completed/real-video guards, and cancellation, and reproduced the config-change timing issue above; it is not a React/browser integration test. I did not rerun Jest or Playwright: this checkout lacks the local SDK tarball and installed dependencies. The requested local pre-commit invocation could not start because pre_commit is unavailable. GitHub reports pre-commit and Build Teleop Web App passing; the build matrix was still running when checked. The PR author's reported test runs were not independently repeated.

Summary
While no OpenXR app is submitting frames, the server sends small keep-alive "idle" frames (frame metadata with
is_empty_frame = true, plus a tiny blank video frame with RTP timestamp 0). The client's decoder counts those as warm-up frames, so the warm-up-end timer started on them and disconnected a session that was only waiting for an app to start. The client cannot otherwise tell "no app yet" (wait) from "app running but warm-up stuck" (time out and retry). The server-side idle frame is observable through a
Received idle framedebug log. This PR teachesCloudXRComponentto use it:onIdleStatus/IdleStatus: new optional callback mirroringonWarmupStatus:{framesSeen, timestamp, active}, fired on each idle frame (active: true) and once when idle ends (active: false).RenderFrameratetick), when warm-up completes, and at attempt boundaries (stream stop, WebXR session end), soonIdleStatusnever staysactive: trueacross a disconnect or retry; the quiet timer never re-arms a watchdog after real video has been seen in the attempt.MockCloudXR.startIdleFrames()/stopIdleFrames()emulate the log (and the mock renders nothing while idle). InStreamAttachTimeoutTest, attempt 4 fails the session mid-idle and checks idle is reported inactive before the retry; attempt 5 rides out idle frames for 3x the warm-up budgets before warm-up completes; a second test (?scenario=real-video-after-idle) checks real video after idle does not re-arm a watchdog.Behavior today
Inert. The log is not currently emitted by CloudXR.js, and the session
logLevelis still Info, so none of this runs until a release that emits it is consumed and the level includes Debug. A connected app that hangs and stops submitting frames is indistinguishable from "no app" while idle frames flow; that needs a host-side app-presence signal and is out of scope here.Test plan
