Hello there. I’ve been using Strobe for a few weeks now and I’ve compiled a list of features and improvements I reckon would enhance the app. They’re of course only my preference but I hope some of them resonate with you.
Bug-like behaviours
Chapter names repeat after chapter announcements.
Currently only periods seem to pause the timing.
Improvements
Move the main text up a little as it looks to be below the center when menus fade out.
Option to select true black background.
Option to select text color.
Option to select pause speed per punctuation mark (commas, colons, semicolons, quotation marks, parenthesis, em dashes, ellipses, etc). Or by type of punctuation.
Hyphenated words should be considered a single word and hence pause timing should apply to them, e.g. “wedge-shaped” should stay on for longer.
Em dashed words should not be considered a single word, e.g. “fantastical elements—stone, oarsmen, etc” is currently shown rapidly as “elements—oarsmen”
Option to add a completely blank space when a period or line break appears, i. e. A completely empty screen should follow a period.
Acronyms should stay on for longer as they are harder to read.
Year acronyms and similar should be displayed as a single word since they are perceived and read as a single unit, e. g. “2000 BCE” should not be separated.
Nice to have
Option to show book name and/or current chapter at the top of the screen. Perhaps in a soft faded colour.
Option to show before and after words in a faded color.
Parenthesis and quotation marks, etc. should remain fixed on screen for as long as the full sentence is running on screen.
