Add `getInstallId()` to the `__comfyDesktop2` bridge so the hosted ComfyUI frontend can read Desktop's per-installation id and send it to cloud as the `X-Comfy-Install-Id` header for request attribution (cloud#14451 reads it in the ingest WebSessionAuth guard). The value is the existing `getDeviceId()` installation id (SHA-256(machine_id + salt)): non-PII, stable per machine, already used for telemetry. No new id scheme. Exposed synchronously via `sendSync`, mirroring `isRemote`, so the frontend can read it inline when building request headers. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

The `getInstallId()` bridge member changes the published contract, so the "Bridge types version bumped" check requires a version bump. Minor bump: the member is additive and optional. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Restrict install-ID access to trusted senders
When a user opens a custom Remote installation, its editable arbitrary URL is loaded with comfyPreload, so page JavaScript can call getInstallId(); this handler returns the stable machine-derived identifier without checking event.sender, its source category, or its current origin. That lets any remote ComfyUI server fingerprint the machine across reinstalls and other products using the shared salt, even though the documented purpose is attribution of requests to Comfy Cloud. Validate the sender against the registry and an appropriate trusted-origin policy before returning the identifier.

Taken: the handler now answers cloud-sourced pages only (b82bfaf).

Thanks for the clear writeup — the three-repo split and the "sender half" framing made this quick to orient in, and reusing the existing installation id rather than inventing a second id scheme is the right instinct.
On the hand-mirrored .d.ts, which is normally where I push back: this one is fine, and I checked rather than assuming. bridge-types:check runs bridge-types:gen and then git diff --exit-code over the declarations, and CI invokes it in the Typecheck job (ci.yml:55). There is also a dedicated bridge-types-version job that fails if the contract files changed without a version bump, and you bumped 0.5.0 → 0.6.0. So the generator is the source of truth and drift is enforced, not conventional. No objection from me here.
Two things I do want settled before this lands, and one suggestion.
1. This puts a stable, unresettable machine identifier on window where any script in the page can read it. contextBridge.exposeInMainWorld('__comfyDesktop2', bridge) is not scoped to the request-building code — it is ambient on the frontend page, and ComfyUI loads third-party custom-node JavaScript into that same page. So every installed custom node gains a one-line read of a value that your own deviceId.ts documents as deterministic per machine and surviving a clean reinstall. Details and a suggested alternative inline on comfyPreload.ts:326.
2. The declared return type is string, but two real paths return something else. as string is an unchecked cast over sendSync, and both the unregistered-handler case and deviceId.ts's own documented pre-init fallback produce a non-id. The second one is the worse of the two because it fails silently in the direction of "attribution quietly stops working". Inline on registerDownloadHandlers.ts:27.
Neither is hard to address, and I am not asking for a redesign of the feature — I would be glad to re-review quickly. Happy to be told I am wrong on the first one if the exposure is already accepted elsewhere; I could not find a precedent for a value of this kind on the bridge (isRemote is a boolean, which is a different thing entirely).

issue: this exposes a stable, machine-derived, reinstall-surviving identifier to every script running in the frontend page, which on ComfyUI includes arbitrary third-party code.
contextBridge.exposeInMainWorld('__comfyDesktop2', bridge) (line 369) makes this a property of window, not a capability handed only to the code that builds request headers. ComfyUI loads custom-node extension JavaScript into that same page and realm, so after this ships window.__comfyDesktop2.getInstallId() is a one-liner available to any installed custom node, and the value can be posted anywhere.
The PR describes the value as non-PII and non-secret, and I agree it is neither. But that is not quite the property that matters here. src/main/lib/deviceId.ts describes it as SHA-256(machine_id + salt), "deterministic per machine (same OS-user account, same hardware)" and surviving "a clean reinstall" — which is the definition of an unresettable tracking identifier. The same file is explicit about where its privacy posture actually comes from: "Real privacy comes from consent gating, PII scrubbing, retention limits, and the discipline of never sending machine_id off the device." Desktop honours that gate for the telemetry use — mainTelemetry.setConsentState(initialConsent) at index.ts:1475 — and this path sits outside it. A user who declined telemetry still gets the id computed and handed to the page.
I do not think isRemote is a precedent for this. It answers one boolean about the current backend; this answers "which machine is this, forever".
The alternative I would reach for first: have Desktop attach the header itself rather than handing the value to the renderer. session.webRequest.onBeforeSendHeaders can add X-Comfy-Install-Id to requests going to the cloud origin, which gets cloud exactly the attribution it asked for, keeps the value in the main process, and means the page — and every extension in it — never sees it. It also removes the version-skew dance in the frontend PR, since there is no bridge method to feature-detect.
If exposing it to the page is deliberate and already signed off, could you say so on the PR and note whether it is meant to be consent-gated? My concern is mostly that this is very hard to walk back: once the id is readable by extensions, it is in the wild, and rotating the salt invalidates attribution for everyone rather than undoing the exposure.

Thanks for the careful read. On the exposure: on a local install, custom-node JS ships inside a Python package that already runs natively with the user's privileges, so it can read the machine id directly, and much worse besides. A hashed id on the bridge doesn't add to what that code can already do. The case where page JS really is less trusted than native code is a user-configured remote server, so I'm restricting the handler to cloud-sourced pages (the same registry lookup desktop2-is-remote does). Done in b82bfaf.
Answering from my context. 👎 if unhelpful.

issue: getInstallId() is typed as returning string, and the preload casts with as string, but there are two paths here that do not produce an install id.
Unregistered handler. ipcRenderer.sendSync on a channel with no listener leaves event.returnValue unset and resolves to undefined. This handler is registered inside registerDownloadHandlers(), called at src/main/index.ts:2211. If the hosted frontend can reach the bridge before that call runs, the cast silently yields undefined and the frontend puts undefined into a header.
Pre-init fallback, which worries me more. The comment on this block says "getDeviceId() is safe post-initDeviceId()", but nothing in this file enforces that — it is an assumption about startup ordering held in a comment. And deviceId.ts is explicit about what happens when the assumption does not hold: "It must only be called after initDeviceId() has resolved; if called earlier it falls back to a random UUID flagged as 'random_fallback'."
That failure is silent and points the wrong way. A random UUID is a perfectly well-formed string, so nothing downstream notices — cloud receives a valid-looking X-Comfy-Install-Id that is different on every launch, and the attribution this feature exists for quietly stops working while every dashboard still shows data. The description says the frontend reads this "inline while building request headers", so the first requests after launch are precisely where a race would land.
I could not prove the race is reachable without tracing the full startup against window creation, so I am not claiming it fires today. The ask is to make the contract honest rather than ordering-dependent: return undefined (or an explicit sentinel) when the id is not yet initialised and let the frontend omit the header, rather than returning something indistinguishable from a real id. getIdClass() is already exported next door and would let this answer "not ready" precisely. The preload signature and the .d.ts would then want string | undefined, which the frontend is already prepared for since it feature-detects the method anyway.
The new test covers the happy path well. A case for "id not initialised" would pin whichever behaviour you choose.

On the return type: agreed. It now returns the id only when it's machine-derived and omits it otherwise, typed string | undefined, with a test. Done in b82bfaf.

suggestion (non-blocking): if the bridge method stays, this is worth memoising in the preload. The installation id cannot change for the lifetime of the process, but sendSync blocks both the renderer and the main process on every call, and the PR describes the frontend reading it inline while building request headers — so potentially once per outgoing request.
Caching the first non-empty result in a module-level variable keeps the synchronous signature the frontend wants while paying the IPC round-trip once. It also pairs well with whatever you decide on the initialisation question above: a memo that only caches a valid id will naturally re-ask if the first call came back empty.

Taken: the preload memoises the first valid result (b82bfaf).
…ine-derived one The sync handler now checks the sender's source category, so a user-configured remote server's page gets undefined, and withholds random/placeholder fallback ids, which change every launch. The preload memoises the first valid id so request building pays the sendSync once. getInstallId is typed string | undefined.

A cloud view's registry category does not change if it navigates away, so also require the sender's URL to pass isTrustedCloudUrl (the policy the auth bridge already uses) and the request to come from its main frame.

The earlier review is settled on this head: the id is limited to a trusted cloud main frame, the return type is string | undefined and only a machine-derived id is returned, and the preload memoizes a successful read.
One check in the new gate still looks wrong. Details inline.

issue: this treats frame identity as object identity. Electron documents WebFrameMain.routingId as the real identity: distinct WebFrameMain instances that refer to the same underlying frame share processId and routingId, so event.senderFrame === event.sender.mainFrame can be false for the main frame itself.
When that happens this handler returns undefined for a legitimate cloud page. getInstallId() then never yields an id, X-Comfy-Install-Id is never sent, and nothing fails loudly. The new unit test cannot catch it, because requestInstallId puts the same object on senderFrame and sender.mainFrame.
This repo already compares frames by those ids, in isTrustedSender (src/main/lib/embeddedSession.ts) and firebaseAuthReporterFrame (src/main/lib/ipc/registerTelemetryHandlers.ts). Could we use that same check here, including a null senderFrame, and give the subframe test two different objects that share or do not share processId/routingId?
There was a problem hiding this comment.
Taken, thanks. The gate now matches frames by processId/routingId the way isTrustedSender does, rejects a null senderFrame, and checks the frame's own URL. The tests build separate frame objects: matching ids for the main frame, a different routingId for a subframe, and a null frame (1381307).
…ng id WebFrameMain instances for the same frame need not be the same object, so identity comparison could reject the cloud page's own main frame and the header would silently never be sent. Match frames by processId/routingId, as isTrustedSender and firebaseAuthReporterFrame already do, reject a missing senderFrame, and check the frame's own URL.

The frame gate now matches isTrustedSender: a null senderFrame is rejected, the main frame is identified by processId and routingId, and the trusted-origin check reads that frame's own URL. The tests use a separate frame object for the success case, a different routingId for a subframe, and a null frame. The earlier return-type and cloud-only limits are unchanged on this head. Checks are green.
What
Adds
getInstallId()to the__comfyDesktop2hosted-frontend bridge so the ComfyUI frontend can read Desktop's per-installation id and send it to cloud as theX-Comfy-Install-Idheader for request attribution. This is the sender (Desktop) half. The cloud receiving side allowlists and reads
X-Comfy-Install-Idin the ingest service'sWebSessionAuthguard. The frontend half is Comfy-Org/ComfyUI_frontend (companion PR).Why
Cloud wants to attribute ingest/web-session requests to a Desktop install. Desktop already computes a stable, non-PII per-installation id (
getDeviceId()→SHA-256(machine_id + salt), used for telemetry). We reuse that value rather than inventing a new id scheme. How

It is optional on the public interface (older builds omit it) but required onComfyDesktop2BridgeImplementation, so the preload must implement it.The value is non-PII and non-secret; cloud only logs/attributes on it (nothing is security-gated server-side).
