Summary

  • Add /find-jobs and route natural-language job searches from /agent and bot mentions.
  • Search recent recruiting gigs in visible #gigs and #fulltime-roles forums, plus staged leads in visible #unqualified-leads.
  • Exclude posts older than 45 days, closed/archived threads, and threads marked filled, lost, outdated, or duplicate. Label staged leads as unverified.
  • Return private slash responses or DM results for mentions, with tests and bot documentation.

Verification

  • uv run --locked --offline pytest tests/unit/test_job_discovery.py tests/unit/test_agent_cog.py tests/unit/test_job_leads.py tests/unit/test_engagements.py -q (107 passed)
  • uv run --locked --offline ruff check ... (passed)
  • uv run --locked --offline pyrefly check packages/shared/src/five08/job_discovery.py apps/discord_bot/src/five08/discord_bot/cogs/agent.py (0 errors)

Limitations

Matching is lexical with APAC and remote synonyms. The 45-day window and live Discord state are conservative freshness checks; the bot does not independently verify an employer's application deadline.

Note

Medium Risk
New Postgres reads and Discord permission-scoped channel filtering; mis-routing could send job searches to the agent or skip legitimate write intents, but changes are read-only with conservative freshness/thread checks.

Overview
Adds read-only job discovery in the Discord bot that runs before the agent gateway, so members can find gigs without backend agent tool calls.

A new shared job_discovery module queries Postgres for recent recruiting engagements and staged job_leads (scoped to forum channel IDs the caller supplies), ranks matches with lexical filters for skills, remote/APAC, location/proximity, and employment type, then caps results. The agent cog adds /find-jobs, routes qualifying natural-language requests from /agent and @mentions to the same search, and returns up to five thread links after re-checking open Discord threads and non-terminal engagement titles. Slash replies stay ephemeral; mention flows DM matches (with a short channel ack). Routing heuristics avoid swallowing task/issue/CRM writes or job-posting commands. README and unit tests cover ranking, SQL bounds, visibility, and routing.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added read-only job discovery through /find-jobs, /agent, and eligible bot mentions.
    • Search visible recruiting posts and staged leads from the last 45 days with open threads; staged leads are labeled unverified.
    • Filter by remote work, APAC, location, and employment type. Results are ranked and limited to five.
    • Slash-command results are private; mention-based results are sent by DM when possible.
    • Added clear responses for missing location details, unavailable searches, and no matches.
  • Documentation

    • Added guidance for job searches and mention-based result delivery.
  • Tests

    • Added coverage for search routing, visibility, freshness, filtering, and ranking.

📝 Walkthrough

Adds read-only Discord job discovery for recent recruiting posts and staged leads. The search ranks and filters posts from visible forums. /find-jobs, /agent, and eligible bot mentions return matching posts privately or by DM.

Changes: Discord job discovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Search and rank job posts
packages/shared/src/five08/job_discovery.py, tests/unit/test_job_discovery.py
Adds query parsing and ranking for skill, location, remote, APAC, and employment-type terms. Searches recent recruiting gigs and staged leads in caller-provided channels, with freshness and source limits. Tests cover ranking, filters, channel scope, candidate limits, and empty-channel behavior.
Discord job-search entry points
apps/discord_bot/src/five08/discord_bot/cogs/agent.py, tests/unit/test_agent_cog.py, apps/discord_bot/README.md
