Deploying secure mode info assistant from github codespace - unable to reach private DNS resolver (lives inside info assistant vnet)

I've followed all of the instructions for deploying info assistant using secure mode and using a point to site secure connection. I'm attempting the deployment from a github codespace. When the deployment process reaches the 'Check Connectivity' step and displays the ip address of the private DNS resolver, I followed the correct steps relating to root/client certificates, pfx and ovpn files and then editing resolv.conf, enabling the tunnel on codespace and connecting via openvpn. But I'm getting an error that looks as though the private DNS resolver is not reachable:

ERROR: <urllib3.connection.HTTPSConnection object at 0x7c9e7a6b0990>: Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno -3] Temporary failure in name resolution
make: *** [Makefile:44: extract-env-debug-webapp] Error 1

This DNS reachability issue didn't happen when I tried deploying from a linux vm. The deployment there finished but then I had some other issues with the info assistant web app not starting so I'm going back to the deployment from codespace.

Has anyone run into the issue with not being able to reach the private DNS resolver when deploying from github codespace?
