0.13.7: osc compute server list reporting flavor as null

Current osc does list flavor as null where it would have displayed it correctly before (0.13.3) on osc compute server list.

A reason is simple, but tricky https://github.com/gtema/openstack/blob/main/openstack_cli/.config/config.yaml#L79 defines flavor as /original_name json pointer which is only populated when MV is >2.47. Default behavior is to stick to the min version of the operation (when you have create_21, create_230, create_250 - the corresponding min version is used). This is necessary to guarantee consistent behavior across clouds.
Now there are few things to address here:

• extend the config/output handler to support fallback jsonpath, so that when certain parameter is not set there is a chance to show something else (in current case the fallback should be "/id"
• add support for user to request particular microversion (also supporting something like "lastest") similarly to how python openstackclient does (except that it doesn't support latest)

This would take some time to implement since the blast radius is quite big requiring full regeneration of sdk

How did 0.13.3 handle this?

• Use a newer microversion?
• Look up the id to translate it into a name?

Honestly, the logic of using the oldest available microversion by default seems very strange to me ...
This hides new features pretty well.

PR #1946 added support for --os-microversion-strategy [floor, ceiling] giving you possibility to control the behavior globally. Ceiling strategy uses the highest version supported by the endpoint and cloud available version. The work here is not finished yet, but with this you can at least see the flavor name being returned in the flavor field. Actually you can also write the custom view config to not to use the /original_name json pointer which is only returned since 2.47 version

The json output has all the information, but I failed to get more fields displayed by specifying -f (multiple times) as well as by adding fields and default_fields into ~/.config/osc/config.yaml for views.compute.server.

So this makes --os-microversion-strategy floor display a flavor field that's always null (on every cloud I tested) and not display one at all on --os-microversion-strategy ceiling. Non-optimal.
The logic behind that is probably sound, but the user-experience needs work ...

honestly speaking I am not able to reproduce it, I see all fields as before with both ceiling, floor and no parameter. If even using "-f" doesn't work well for you something is not right. Can you please try it out without ~/.config/osc/config.yaml? And maybe also have a look with "-vv" and/or -o json whether ceiling strategy cause server side not to include fields for whichever reason

OK, removed Cargo.lock, did a cargo clean and recompiled on Ubuntu 24.04 with cargo/rustc-1.91.

• Without --os-microversion-stategy or with floor, the flavor field now displays the json struct as is {"id": "...", "links":[{...}]} rather than null
• With ceiling, compute server list is using compute microversion 2.96 and the output is down to id, status, created headers and fields, no more name, image, flavor, security_groups.
• -o wide adds a tenant_id with ceiling, and tons of fields without it.
• -o json shows all fields as expected ...
• weird thing is that I can't get any of them (beyond the above mentioned) displayed using -f. No ~/.config/osc/*.yaml files present.
• However, there is an oscrc file in ~/.config/osc/ from the OpenSUSE Build Service Client. (An unfortunate name conflict.) strace tells me that it's not read ... so I assume it's not a problem
• If I take cli/core/.config/config.yaml, copy it into ~/,config/osc/ and add description to the default_fields list of views.compute.server, it has no effect. strace tells me that it is read.

Could you, maybe, try to make a fresh clone or verify there are no other modified files? This is definitely not an expected behavior. I am now ready to implement a fallback for displaying flavor name or the id and understood this would be a very bad UX (unreliable output). So I am going to change the flavor column to be showing the flavor ID always and add an optional "flavor name" column which would be populated when a proper MV is being used
