C2PA Monitor: Media Library grid view indicator #955

Description

@lnispel

Context

Follow-up to #459 (C2PA Monitor experiment).

The Content Credentials status is currently surfaced only in the Media Library list view (custom column) and on the attachment detail / Edit Media screens. The grid view (thumbnail grid) has no visual indicator.

What is needed

A visual indicator on grid-view thumbnails for attachments where C2PA data was detected (c2pa.present === true).

Constraint: the CR trustmark is gated on C2PA conformance

The original description proposed using the CR icon. We cannot ship it today. The Content Credentials trustmark (the CR pin) is a certification mark administered under the C2PA Conformance Program, and its use is limited to products on the C2PA conforming products list. WordPress is not currently on that list.

This is a gate, not a permanent bar. If WordPress is admitted to the conforming products list, the icon becomes available and this issue can adopt it. Until then the grid indicator must not use it.

The trustmark is also tied to displaying validated Content Credentials, and C2PA Monitor is detection-only today (#954 covers cryptographic verification). Both conformance and verification would need to be in place before the icon is appropriate — conformance alone would not unblock it.

Revised scope

  • Ship a neutral, plugin-specific indicator now (Dashicon or text badge), visually distinct from the CR pin.
  • Use wording consistent with the rest of the experiment: credentials were detected, not verified.
  • Do not use the CR pin, the Content Credentials wordmark, or any derivative treatment of either.
  • WordPress's pursuit of C2PA conformance is out of scope here and should be tracked separately if it is ever taken up.
