Pull in AMD 7.2 FRL & DSC Kernel Patches

I’m currently working to see if the OGC-7.0.11 branch is up to date enough with DRM-next so that I can cherry-pick the relevant commits from the upstream repo. Even if I don’t create a pull request for the patches, Kyle or someone else likely will very soon.

Edited now that the issue was transferred from the kernel-packages repo, I apologize @pastaq and appreciate you bringing attention to this.

Great, been monitoring these patches on the ML for weeks and am glad they finally got merged into drm-next. From what I’ve gathered, there are a multiple patch series that need to be applied. I’m not sure if this should be done from the ML patches, or from upstream commits, but here are the relevant patch series. The first patch series has overlapping patches with the second, but also has required patches missing from the second series including the block sequencing patch and the several FRL register patches.

From the v1 cover letter it sounds like there was another DC patch series merged into drm-next ahead of this that was prerequisite, so those patches were shipped in the FRL series to enable testing until that series was merged. We'll need to find that series as well, which should be on the ML.

I believe that “the next DC patch series” the letter was referencing is the second patch series I linked, which is the v6 which implements FRL & DSC. If there’s something else in the cover letter I missed you might have to be more specific.

Ok, assuming that’s all the relevant patches for FRL, theres one more thing we have to worry about. The kernel already has Tomasz Pakuła’s VRR patches, but there are certain specific issues where VRR isn’t properly exposed when using FRL. A friend developed a patch to mitigate this which should fix this, however the VRR patches may need to be updated.

Would it be better it to just pull all the driver changes included in the 7.2 PRs? It would guarantee we get all the necessary FRL patches and probably be easier in the long run.
