faced many challenges setting up OpenUBA so i hope anyone facing similar can use my setup as guide.

Hey @rock0ne thanks for this. If you use Kubernetes it’s only a single command:

make k8s-deploy

We’d suggest using Kubernetes because v2 uses various Kubernetes primitives to make setup, operations, maintenance, and contributions very easy and reproducible

Please give Kubernetes a try.

Note: this is also in the README, there’s a getting started section that provides a few one-line commands to set everything up:

Link 2 here actually will kill the local cluster you have running, and rebuild that as well. Please give these a try, you will find it much easier as OpenUBA v2 uses Kubernetes in many important ways.

Btw is this from a fresh Ubuntu install?

I see what you’re trying to do in your bash script. However if you just have kind/docker and kubectl, that’s all you need and our Makefile targets will just work. Let us know if you run into any issues using the provided Makefile targets

Thanks for the incredibly detailed writeup — this was exactly the friction we needed documented. I've folded it into the repo in #143: an official scripts/install-ubuntu.sh, a docs/INSTALL_UBUNTU.md guide, and — addressing your top maintainer note — start-dev.sh now detects Linux and backgrounds the port-forwards instead of the macOS-only Terminal launch, so make reset-dev works out of the box on a server. Credited you in the PR.
