Any way to block auto download of MMS messages?

[NeonLogicHub]

As per the title. I feel this is a security risk. I get spam to my inbox, and it auto downloads the mms even without clicking on anything.

Any way to block this? Upon first look, I found nothing within the settings.

Thanks

No, there's no setting for it yet. The open feature request is FossifyOrg/Messages#479 ("Settings option to not automatically download MMS messages"); adding your case there is the most useful thing to do.

What happens today: the WAP push for an incoming MMS is handled by com.android.mms.transaction.PushReceiver from the org.fossify:mmslib library (registered in app/src/main/AndroidManifest.xml), and it hands the content location straight to DownloadManager.downloadMultimediaMessage(). The library does honour an auto_download_mms preference (NotificationTransaction.allowAutoDownload()), but the app never exposes or sets it, so it stays at its default of true.

The blocking features do not stop the fetch either. MmsReceiver.isAddressBlocked() and isContentBlocked() are called from MmsReceivedReceiver.onReceive() in mmslib, which runs after the download has finished; a blocked number or keyword just discards the downloaded message. So the blocked numbers and blocked keywords settings will keep the spam out of your inbox, but not off the wire.
