Can you provide a link to your file or a similar example file. We can't debug without an image.

Also you could simply try it. The aicsimageio api should be simple enough to do this:

img = AICSImage("path/to/lif", reader=LifReader)
print(img.shape)
array = img.get_image_data("TCZYX")
etc...

Sorry, I just saw that you have some output from trying it. Specifying the reader might help for sure, as it will ensure not testing any other readers.
As @evamaxfield said, supplying us a file we can use to reproduce will definitely help.

I also found this, which may imply that readlif is not ready to read these files just yet, but that the changes to do so may not be too difficult: Arcadia-Science/readlif#43
